SELECT BASKETBALL TRYOUTS for WINTER 2011-2012 Last updated on September 19, 2011.
Boys Basketball select Results GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the tryout process is to give every boy with an interest in playing basketball at the Select level a fair opportunity to compete for selection to a County team roster for the 2011/2012 basketball seasonal year.
The goal is to form boys teams that seek a higher level of basketball competition than the Club level. Coaching and training of the players and team focus on age appropriate skills development to offer a life long connection with the game. In support of the Select Program, each team participates in an AACO county league that best fits the team skills and development track. The number of teams formed for each age group will depend on the number of kids trying out and available coaches.
We are always seeking qualified coaches to support our Select Basketball Program. If you are interested in coaching a select basketball team, please email the Select Basketball Coordinator at the email address listed at the end of this document or on the Green Hornets basketball website.

EVALUATION PROCESS
Our objective is to provide an environment that is fair and best reflects the game of basketball. Qualified Green Hornet coaches and volunteers will assist in the evaluation and selection process. Attendance at all tryout sessions is highly recommended, as it will give the evaluating staff the best opportunity to properly evaluate the candidate.
We are seeking qualified volunteers to assist with player evaluations. Volunteer must have a good working knowledge of fundamental basketball skills. Please contact the Select Coordinator at least two days before tryouts to coordinate volunteering. No volunteers will be accepted on the day of tryouts.
Through a series of basketball drills, small-sided games (scrimmages), and other skills evaluation, the evaluators will rate each player in the following categories:
1) Dribbling Ability, 2) Shooting Ability, 3) Athletic Ability, and 4) Competitiveness.
TRACKING PROCESS
During Sign-In, every player will be assigned a unique number that will be used by the evaluation staff to record and track each player’s progress. At each tryout, the number should be pinned to the back of the shirt. The unique number assigned at the first tryout session should be brought to the second tryout session by the candidate. A new number will not be assigned.
IMPORTANT: Keep and reuse this number for each tryout - do not lose or forget this number!
NOTIFICATION DATES
Players making one of the select teams will have their tryout number posted on an age appropriate Green Hornets website, or emailed to all candidates by the Select committee. Team selections are usually completed within one week of the tryout process. A coach will also contact their players by phone or email once teams have been selected and coaches assigned to their teams.
