Sample Green Hornets Boys' Basketball Team Creation Methodology

  1. Assuming a league will have 16 teams, identify your top 32 players; these players are your 1st Grouping… Identify the next 48 players (2nd Grouping), following 48 players (3rd Grouping) and last 32 players (4th Grouping). These evaluation pools will not be perfect. Players not attending evaluations are placed in a separate pool and are randomly selected at the end of the draft.
  2. Each team is allowed to have a coach, one assistant coach and a pre-emptive pick. Accordingly, all of these picks are reserved from the beginning of the draft. However, under NO circumstances may a pre-emptive pick cause a team to have 3 players form the first grouping or four players from the 2nd grouping.
  3. A pre-emptive pick is bilateral. The coaches want the player and the player wants to play for the coaches.
  4. Players who do not show up at evaluations are randomly assigned to teams. Their names are placed in a hat and are drawn by the coaches on draft day.
  5. Each team identifies their pre-emptive pick and this pick along with the sons of the Coach and one Assistant coach are reserved for that team.
  6. The draft order is determined by random selection.
  7. Each team then picks from each of the pools of players. In the event that a coach/assistant coach has a son or pre-emptive pick in the evaluation grouping being selected, he/she MUST select that player first during his turn in the draft.
  8. The evaluation grouping must be exhausted before a coach is permitted to select from the next evaluation grouping UNLESS ALL of the other coaches agree to allow selection to begin from the next grouping.
  9. All players not attending evaluations are placed in a separate pool. If a consensus can be drawn among the coaches and more than 4 of the teams represented know the player, the player may be placed in an evaluation grouping at the discretion of the League Director.
  10. At the close of the draft, the players contact information is provided to the coaches and the players are notified of their team affiliation and their preliminary practice schedule.
